Introduction: The Coach "I leaped headlong into the sea, and thereby have become better acquainted with the soundings, the quick sands, and the rocks, than if I had stayed upon the green shore, and piped a silly pipe, and took tea and comfortable advice."
It is simply what I have done most of my lifetime, and now I consider it only one, carved out element of my life—that wedge of cheese that remains, fermenting and evolving, no matter how I struggle to leave it behind at times. At 62, it is the essential me, but not the total me, which can be complex and contradictory, and, at times, cantankerous. I have built a professional life, and, again at times, like many professionals, struggle to escape it. I launched this website for a public (perhaps even commercial) as well as a private purpose. The public purpose will become evident as one reads, while the private reason is a subconscious journey to explain Mr. Willard to Mr. Willard, thus a passage inescapable. The coach is a moniker adapted by others and often me that sums up what most professionals do when they have reached a yellow leaf age, and wish not to retire. This, regardless of whether one has chairman or CEO in front of a name, as I do. It is not that one is yanked from the game, like the pitcher who gives up a volley of runs in the later innings, for I am very much in the game day to day. It is that most of us fall into a mentoring category, a coach, as we grow older. I truly appreciate your reading my website. It is the website of someone who has lived in the backwaters of current history and has known many of the players. This means, of course, I can name and place drop with the best of them. I will try to keep it enjoyable. If you have any questions, please contact me directly. Coach@twg.com.ua |
